Product Design for Electronic Devices

Product design is vital in the process of manufacturing electronic devices. With product design, manufacturers are able to see if future projects are feasible and executable. This is especially important when it comes to gadgets like mobile phones and video game devices. The reason for this is the design and size of electronic gadgets varies greatly from culture to culture. A good example of this phenomenon is cellular phones. Today, cell phones are not only used for calling and texting. They can also be used for browsing the Internet, taking pictures and listening to music among others. The functions of phones are the same in different countries. The variation lies in the usage of different people. For instance, people in western countries, like to use both hands when texting or surfing the Net through cellular phones. People in Asian countries, such as Japan, use only one hand when texting because of their busy lifestyle. The Japanese tend to use their mobile phones with one hand while grabbing a hand rail with the other when riding an underground train. For this reason, cellular phones for people in Asia are designed with the keys all in thumb's reach.

Another example is the various gaming consoles. Some of these video game devices are significantly lighter and smaller for people in places like Asia. Studies show that Occidentals have larger hand sizes than Asian gamers. Thus, manufacturers made it a point to create consoles that are more suitable for each culture. This is a very good idea because gamers can feel comfortable whilst playing their favourite video games. There are many other factors to be considered when thinking about product design. It is important for any manufacturer to know these factors if they want to launch their products internationally.
